Partner, Cooley LLP: Gordon is a partner in the Cooley Business department in the Palo Alto office. Gordon counsels both private and publicly traded companies on a full range of transactions and matters. He also represents a diverse set of investors, including seed and angel groups, venture capital funds, family offices and corporate strategics, in connection with their financial and strategic investments in innovative technology and life sciences companies. Gordon counsels companies in a wide range of industries, including internet, consumer electronics, digital and social media, life sciences and healthcare, energy innovation, software, mobile, fintech and online funding. Gordon also serves as a member of the Board of Directors of the Asia America MultiTechnology Association (AAMA), a leading Silicon Valley technology business network focused on promoting the success of U.S. and Asian technology enterprises. He is a frequent presenter, moderator and speaker at various trade and technology events in Silicon Valley and beyond. He received his law degree from the University of San Francisco in 1997. He completed his undergraduate studies in 1993 at the University of California, Davis, where he earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Managerial Economics.
Chief Operating Officer (COO), iiPay: Curtis currently serves as COO of Integrated International Payroll (iiPay). Curtis leads the operational strategy for product/solution direction, marketing, communications, operations service excellence, implementation and customer support. He has served on several boards including non-profit organizations and technology companies. Most recently he served as a Trustee for Greenhill School including serving as Finance Chair for several years. He is currently a member of the Advisory Board at Centina Systems and on the board for Jericho Road-Dallas. During his professional career, Curtis has served as CEO, President, and Director of Texert, an early stage enterprise risk management software start-up company. Prior to Texert, Curtis served as President, Chief Executive Officer, and Director of MetaSolv Software before it was acquired by Oracle Corporation. Curtis served in several executive and managerial capacities at Lucent Technologies and Bell Laboratories where he started his career. Curtis earned an M.S. in Computer Science from Purdue University where he was recognized as a Distinguished College of Science Alumni and a B.S. in Computer Science, Summa Cum Laude, from Southern University.
Honorary Consul, Republic of Latvia (Northern California): Over her ~17 year career as an international economist, Liga has worked for a variety of leading organizations and agencies ranging from the U.S. Department of Treasury – Internal Revenue Service, Charles River Associates International, BlackRock, Franklin Templeton Investments, DLA Piper, to her most recent post at Agilent Technologies, where Liga is a Director and manages an international team focused on IP, services and product pricing policies, advanced pricing agreements and international audit defense. She maintains extensive expertise and specialization in transfer pricing experience based on her global tax and trade consulting, government policy development, and internal corporate advisory experiences. Since 2011, Liga has also worked as an Honorary Consul for the Republic of Latvia (Northern California). In this capacity, Liga supports the long-term development of Latvia's -- NATO and EU member state -- economy and civic society in the SF Bay Area by creating opportunities for tech innovation and growth of trade, investment partnerships as well as cultural and educational exchanges for current and next-gen Latvians. Henry is a partner at DraperDragon (FKA DFJ DragonFund China), a VC firm based in Silicon Valley with offices in mainland China, which invests in innovative technologies and business models with market appeal in Silicon Valley and China. Additionally, he is also a venture partner at Struck Capital, an LA-based VC firm, focused on exceptional late-seed and Series A high tech investment opportunities based on Struck's rule-based investment thesis. Henry also serves as the Executive Director of Global Chamber® San Francisco, a member organization focused on supporting and engaging business leaders, companies, and communities to accelerate global business growth and participate in successful cross-border trade and investment opportunities. CEO & Co-Founder, MyPinWheel: Chia-Lin Simmons is the CEO / C-Founder of MyPinWheel, a Parenting Smart Assistant (Mobile + Big Data + AI) startup. She is also the Founder of #binderfullofwomenfounders, a mini-movement focused on helping female founders find and secure funding. Prior to RedHelicopter, Chia-Lin was the Head of Global Partner Marketing for Google's digital business Google Play Music and the Google Play Store (downloadable music, movies/tv, apps & game). During her tenure at Google, she increase music trials for Google Play Music, managed marketing for Google Play Gift Cards, launched new in-home, mobile, wireless and brand partners and increase revenue. She also worked on go-to-marketing and special projects Asia, Russia, and Latin America. Chia-Lin was the VP of Marketing & Content for Harman International (NASDAQ: HAR) for 3.5 years prior to joining Google where she was responsible for global marketing, content and marketing business development, content programming, product marketing and customer support for the company's Connected Car business, Prior to joining Harman in 2010, Chia-Lin was the VP of Marketing and General Manager of Playphone North America, a senior business development executive at AOL / Time Warner and the VP of Strategic Alliances at Audible (an Amazon company) where she managed revenue, customer acquisition/retention and business development. Chia-Lin graduated Magna cum Laude and Phi Beta Kappa from U.C. San Diego and received her MBA from Cornell University, where she was a Park Leadership Fellow. Her Fellowship project was the Big Red Incubator, a technology startup incubator for technology developed out of Cornell University. Chia-Lin also has a JD from George Mason University School of Law and is a licensed New York State attorney.
Co-Founder, EVAOS: Richard is the Co-Founder of EVAOS (Electric Vehicle Add-On Systems), a disruptive Silicon Valley Startup transforming trucks into both hybrid and all-electric vehicles with mobile power stations for the Department of Defense and commercial customers. Richard developed a complex corporate eco-system for EVAOS comprised of Tesla suppliers and corporate partners that participate in the investment, design, and assembly of their technology. In addition, the eco-system has led to the cultivation of other disruptive technology startups inside and outside of the automotive space. Prior to EVAOS, Richard served as the first Quality Manager for the Model S (code named White Star) for Tesla Motors in Rochester Hills Michigan. He went on to lead the Supply Chain Manufacturing and Quality for all parts across all Tesla Programs including Roadster, Model S, Rav 4, Smart Car, and the Mercedes A Class power trains. He authored the guidelines and requirements for all manufacturers doing business with Tesla Motors around the globe. Richard spent his early automotive career in the technical management ranks of American Specialty Cars. Throughout his career with the Japanese, German, and US automakers, Richard launched 3 ground-up manufacturing facilities, revolutionized robotic 3D laser scanning technology (for which he holds patents), and successfully launched OEM programs for Mitsubishi, Toyota, and BMW on time, on cost, and on Quality with less than 0.5%ppm.
John D. Thomas
CEO, Helix Motors, Inc.: John is CEO of Helix Motors, Inc., which develops an innovative, patented and technically advanced three-wheel vehicle to help reduce traffic congestion and pollution, while also helping to conserve natural resources. Prior to Helix, John had experience at all levels at Fortune 500 companies in addition to earning several stripes in the startup community. John worked his way up in the “Big-3” automotive industry with 16 years in product & production engineering at General Motors Fisher Body and Ford Powertrain followed by 13 years of increased responsibility at major Tier 1 automotive suppliers and OEMs such as GKN, Collins & Aikman and Magna Steyr before moving to Tesla Motors where he was selected to be the first Head of the Model S program and General Manager of its Michigan and future factory operations. John honed this art for several years at Tesla Motors followed by founding and running his own startup ALTe Powertrain Technologies for over 5 years before establishing international operations for clients in the electric vehicle and cleantech space in China, Australia and the EU. Over the last 8 years, John has been sought out to be a speaker and presenter at many conferences in the US and globally where he shared his views on technology, rebuilding the middles class and disruptive business models which can result in a win/win outcome for all stakeholders. Speaking engagements included the Clinton Global Initiative, Deutsche Bank, Wedbush and Pacific Crest Investor Conferences along with multiple cleantech conferences. John was honored to have his startup ALTe Powertrain selected by Forbes Magazine as one of “America’s Most Promising Companies” in 2011 while also being selected twice by Ernst & Young two years in a row as one of the “EV100” which is a designation given to the top 100 people in the world shaping the electric vehicle industry. John holds Bachelors’ Degrees in Mechanical Engineering & Business Administration from Lawrence Technological University in addition to an MBA from Eastern Michigan University. He also has certifications in Lean manufacturing & Six Sigma.
